Exact conversion vs marketed size
The marketed inch size is a rounded figure. The exact conversion differs slightly:

Brands round to the nearest standard inch size. A fan sold as "48 inch" and a fan sold as "1200mm" are the same size. Treat the mm figure and the inch figure as two names for one sweep.
What sweep size means
Sweep is the diameter of the full circle the blade tips trace. It is not the length of one blade.
- A 1200mm sweep means the blade circle is 1200mm wide from tip to tip.
- One blade of a 1200mm fan is roughly 600mm from the centre of the motor to the tip.
A larger sweep moves air over a larger floor area from one mounting point. Sweep does not measure airflow strength — that is air delivery in CMM.
How to measure your ceiling fan size
You can measure an installed fan in two ways:
- Even number of blades (4 blades): Measure the straight-line distance from one blade tip to the opposite blade tip. That distance is the sweep.
- Odd number of blades (3 blades): Measure from the centre of the motor to one blade tip. Multiply by 2. That result is the sweep.
Measure in a straight line, not along the blade curve. A result near 1200mm (about 47–48 inches) means you have the standard Indian size.
